the Internet and online gaming.

I thought I would post that my copy of Guild Wars: Factions arrived today.

I personally find this topic interesting because I really have no use for the CD - NC Soft shipped me the game over the Internet a few weeks back. Yes, I was just a Guild Wars: Prophecies player and NC Soft streamed 460 meg of Factions content to me even though they had no knowledge I had pre-ordered their new Factions game (separate games, you can own Prophecies or Factions or both). Earlier this week NC Soft streamed another 80 meg to me. That is 540 meg of game delivered via cable modem. That is a LOT of people receiving a LOT of non-requested data over the Internet.

So here is a 'new' game in the mail from EB Games, I open the box in order to ignore the CD and to get at one piece of paper - the Access Key. I enter that in the Account Panel under my existing account and now I am playing Factions. I don't know what management at our cable company thinks of delivering 100,000 games over the internet for software companies but they are providing that service! =^_^=

Do you play FFXI on a PC with nice hardware? (Guild Wars is graphics intensive) Do you have a cable modem? Well here is the Guild Wars Client for PC's (a few years back I used to help out at a Help Desk, so I know about clients and servers)

I am sure that just like for me NC Soft will then try to stream about 600 meg onto your PC's hard drive. Here is the recommended hardware (don't ask me questions about hardware! LOL!):

So do you know a Clan member who pre-ordered Factions? I did, and so I am posting here. If you have a nice PC (per the FAQ) and want to try out Prophecies then the pre-order box of the Factions Campaign shipped with a ten hour Trial Key for Prophecies. Yes, you can try out the Prophecies Campaign for ten hours if you want. I have one ten-hour key. It is a 25 character Trial key. Here are the first ten codes: 1DDGQ-61NL9-

Look me up in the game if you are a Clan Member and you want the next fifteen codes. This is for the original game and not for the new Factions Campaign. I only have the one Trial Key for Prophecies.

Prophecies

I played the original GW when it was relese and never finshed, I got to lvl 15 or something like that but is Prophecies the first one? I've never heard it called that and if not i thought there were only 2 >,<;

changed their plan

NC Soft is the company listed on the box, and I guess they changed their marketing approach.

Yes, originally Guild Wars was the only game, no subscription fee, and you would purchase in the future 'updates' which were 'chapters' (as though the game were a novel). I read that description of updates when I was first looking into the game.

Now Guild Wars is a saga with different campaigns, each of which can be played separately.

Guild Wars (original campaign, original game) is/was renamed Guild Wars: Prophecies
and instead of purchasing 'chapters' you now purchase a 'separate game'. However this appears to just be marketing silliness. I am sure if you purchase either game the entire 'game' or 'engine' or 'program' or whatever you want to call it is downloaded via the net onto your PC.

Fire up your Guild Wars (original) game, Xilldon, and it will download via the net megabytes and megabytes of updates. Sign in and go to Edit Account and you will see your account is cleared to play Guild Wars: Prophecies. All your account will need to play Guild Wars: Factions is an additional Access Key.

Guild Wars: Factions is really the same 'game rules' with new territories and new jobs - but it is marketed as a separate game at Best Buy and CompUSA and Circuit City. Guild Wars: Prophecies is still sold in the stores as the original Guild Wars; I do not believe the box art has changed and neither has the retail title.

Ya well...

after reading this i felt like play GW so i reinstalled it(my PC crashed a while back and i havent reinstalled) and it updateing right now. I happen to be on 26KPS ;,; so its been updateing for abou 2 hours now its about 72% done. I wonder if Ill like it again>,<
