Thersites finally beat the old man on his third try! I thought I should share my strategy incase anyone else needs to fight him as a Ranger. I went in as a level 70 Galka Ranger with marksman skills capped. I didn't believe the old wives tale about going in without gear on, so I went in fully equiped.

Here's the gear I was using during the fight:

Hellfire
Silver Bullets
Trailer's Kurki
Pilferer's Apsis
Ranger AF
Drone Earrings
Boywer Ring
Marksman's Ring
Amemet Mantle
Royal Knight's Belt +1

Before the fight I used:

Opo Opo Necklace with sleep potions for TP
Blink Band for shadows
Deadeye Earring for +20 ranged attack on first shot
Squid Sushi +1 for ranged accuracy
Perisikos Aulait for HP regeneration

Here was the sequence of events:

1. Buffed up as indicated above before approaching Maat.

2. Approached Maat within the ranged attack "sweet spot"

3. Drew weapon but didn't engage yet.

4. Fired a Slug Shot.

5. Engaged Matt within dagger range.

6. Fired Barrage.

7. Fired Eagle Eye Shot.

8. Fired Slug Shot.

9. Ate a Vile Elixier to restore HP.

10. Ate an Icarus wing for TP.

11. Fired Slug Shot.

12. Fight is over!

Interestingly, I didn't fire a single shot that wasn't a weapon skill or job abilty. At the end of the fight I was down to less than 100 HP. Oddly Maat didn't give up at 30-40% of his HP like some players have experienced. At the time I fired the last Slug Shot, Maat was at around 25%. I actually think I may have killed the old geezer with my last shot, hehe. Serves him right!
