Palborough Massacre
Submitted by raprot on Wed, 11/10/2004 - 20:53.

Last night Maior headed over to Bastok to walk down to the bottom of Drachenfall Waterfall so that I could finish the water quest and grab my stone tablet. After we headed back into town he loaned me his field gear so that I could head into Palborough mines and grab my 'sharp stone' for the Nanaa Mihgo quest "Rock Rackateer". Mind you, I've been trying to get this stone since I was level 16 and died back then failing to obtain it. Now that I'm 30, Maior and I thought I could solo my way up there to get it. Boy, was I wrong.

After Maior left I took off for the mines. All of the Quadavs were too weak for me so I walked on up to the second floor. Everything was still too weak to me, but took twice as long to kill as the first floor Quads. Finally I got over the bridge and into my mining areas. There was one easy Quadav and one too weak. I took down the easy and polished off the too weak that aggroed. With half of my life gone, I began to heal. Wouldn't you know, and Old Quadav aggroes. So I think, "Crap, I'll just run to the first floor and heal there." So I flee through the tunnels and get to the elevator. I throw my hand on the lever and pull...

*10 Quadavs Spawn in the elevator on top of me!*

Needless to say, the elevator would not go. I could not believe what was happening. I panicked and ran to the boat that goes into Bastok, trailing 10 Quadavs behind me and gaining more. I jumped into the boat, threw my hand on the lever and pulled...

*12 Quadavs Spawn in the boat on top of me!*

The boat would not budge. I kept reaching for the lever to no avail. By this point I couldn't even see Mere anymore. She was encircled and had nowhere to run. One final barrage of blows and she fell below them, dead. Like a giant monster the hoard came off her as a single entity. When they had reached the hallway the single giant split into 12 seperate entities and all walked away. I was petrified and furious. Not only had I lost experience, failed yet again to get that damned stone, had HP in Jeuno, but what the hell has FF done to our game?

When was it illegal to attempt to save yourself from an aggro? When did they enable Mobs to spawn at your location when you use machinery? Does this seem reasonable? Maybe the elevator. Had I gone down to the first floor the Quadavs would have taken the stairs down and brought practically every Quadav in the house down to noob level. Maybe this is FF's way of dealing with people who make trains. That makes sense. But why the boat? Shouldn't people be able to 'zone' to Bastok to save themselves from dying?

I'm very aggitated with Palborough Mines right now. I've almost lost all hope at getting the 'sharp stone' until I'm level 35. The cap for most mobs in Palborough is 30, lucky me. Basically, I'm just forced to wait until someone can go in with me and be the extra bit of support that will keep me from getting massacred again.

wow!!

Well sorry to hear about your scary ordeal, but I must say it was one hell of a story. You know you write real well. I feel bad for your experience but I just couldn't help but enjoy your story. You made it very suspenseful and intense. I do thank you for sharing that, and I would like to help you finish your quest if you still need it.
