Emigration?!
Submitted by ravenclaw on Wed, 09/22/2004 - 15:48.

Has anyone else seen this message on the server about world emigration? WTH is this? I just logged in this morning and was met with it.

Is anyone in this clan thinking of it? If we all migrated, would we all end up in the same server?

Migrating does have some perks. For one, we would help dictate the economy in the new server. For another, we would have much better opportunities camping certain overcamped NMs in our server.

Maintain Position

I have to agree with Sam on this one. There are people on this server that I talk to outside of the linkshell and if I move to another server I lose contact with them. Plus, if the emigration works as it's supposed to, it will level the playing field on all of the servers.

Their plan isn't neccessarily going to work though. I expect that everyone will feel the way we do and won't want to leave their servers. Square will then start making offers. Either a free month of play for each immigrant, or another such deal. This will work, but probably too well. Then the new servers will get overcrowded and leave all of us in a much better state within our server.

Understand that it wouldn't be easy to start playing on a new server. Prices haven't found equilibrium. There's no old money lingering around. Gil farmers haven't attached themselves to the market yet. The economy will take a while to level out. Plus, you'll have no idea of how many high levels are going to agree to this. Say you end up on a server purely made of levels 0-20, this will sufficiently hurt leveling because there won't be anyone selling higher level armor and weapons. Or this will make the couple high level crafters extremely rich since they will control the market on these items.

I'm not a marketing major, but I can see problems. Sam has a better understanding of macroeconomics. So I agree with him. I wish to stay on Phoenix.

Actually, there are already plenty of people volunteering to go. So far, every single person on my blacklist has volunteered (yay) and last night, in Jeuno, I heard at least 8 people shout things like:

"Screw you, Phoenix! You guys suck! I'm moving to a new server!"

I checked every single person doing this, and they all had stupid job combos or levels (one was a WAR/WHM, another was a MNK/RDM, another was a 30WHM with a level 1 BLM).

So my bet is that these people moving are doing so because they felt *blighted* on our server (because, oh, idunno, they made idiotic choices ;-) Thus, chances are the new server will be full of all the morons and refuse we don't want ;-)

You ever see that episode of the Simpsons where the Earth is going to explode and so they have two rocketships leaving Springfield? One ship is to save all the smart people, the other one is sending the stupid people into the Sun? These new servers... they are The Sun ;-)

EU boost

This is because they have had a recent surge in the EU players (since it was released over there). So now, server load is especially high. They are creating new servers to alleviate some of the load.

I personally would say we shouldnt do the move. For one, we would have to get EVERYONE in the LS to move (unless we wanted to leave someone behind). Plus, there will be enough people moving that your dreams of NM camping goodness will likely be shattered.

Personally, I'm content to stay.
